Partnership with PIXO VR

Our partner PIXO VR aims to bring changes to the current labor market and training approaches by popularizing Mixed Reality (MR) solutions. This fresh approach to employee training provides hands-on experience in risk-free simulated 3D environments. It applies in any industry and can be used to train a new generation of workforce and improve current employee performance.

N-iX MR started cooperation with PIXO VR back in 2018, and since then they’ve been one of our most trusted partners. As of 2024, we have delivered 11 full-cycle MR projects and co-developed over 9 more. Now a large team of Unreal and Unity programmers, game designers, artists, and producers serve as a true extension and a strong technical support of their internal team.

For this project, our task was to develop fully immersive and interactive 3D workspaces for fast food kitchen employee training.

About the project

In this VR kitchen environment, employees assume the role of a kitchen worker receiving orders through a TV screen. They must then prepare the dishes, such as cheeseburgers, strips, nuggets, milkshakes, ice cream, cold cocktails, etc., and package them appropriately in bags for delivery.

Key features of the simulation include:

  • Highly Interactive Environments: The VR simulation provides highly interactive kitchen environments, where employees can interact with various tools, utensils, and ingredients just like in a real kitchen. From flipping burgers on the grill to pouring liquids into containers, every action feels lifelike and immersive.
  • Interactive Tutorial: A step-by-step instructional guide with a voiceover assists new employees, walking them through each process. This tutorial reduces the learning curve and enhances memory retention.
  • Practice Mode: Employees have the freedom to explore and practice different tasks within the virtual kitchen environment without constraints. This mode allows for experimentation and skill development at one’s own pace.
  • Competitive/Challenge Mode: For those looking to assess their skills, the challenge mode provides an environment with no guidance, testing the knowledge and speed of employees under the sort of pressure they would face during a real service. This mode features a leaderboard among practitioners, which gamifies the training experience, encouraging employees to strive for improvement.
  • Different Bags and Functionality: Employees learn to distinguish between bags designed for hot dishes and those for cold items, understanding how to package orders to maintain their temperature during delivery.
  • Pouring and Mixing Liquids: Employees practice pouring liquids into different containers and mixing them as required for various recipes. This hands-on experience enhances their skills in beverage preparation, such as crafting cold cocktails and milkshakes.
  • Randomized Order Generation: To keep employees on their toes, orders are randomly generated, simulating the unpredictability of a real kitchen environment.

By leveraging VR technology, our training simulation offers a dynamic and engaging way for kitchen employees to hone their skills, ensuring consistency and excellence in food preparation and service.
