About the Project
Every year, thousands of hazardous material incidents happen on public roads due to vehicle accidents. Realistic training is vital for first responders to prevent fatalities or severe injuries. First Responder Operations training offers an immersive experience, enabling responder teams to practice fast medicine-making at the scene of a tractor-trailer accident. It can be used by individuals or teams simultaneously, meeting OSHA training requirements and allowing responders to practice hands-on emergency response skills, such as:
Team communication and collaboration techniques: Responders are prompted to consider whether to call upon a first response team for assistance and to identify any injured individuals who may require immediate aid or who can provide information.
Identification of hazardous materials: Participants must gather information about the nature of the incident, including details about the carriage involved. The scene is populated with barrels bearing different markings to indicate their contents. The simulation also includes various types of simulated liquids, each distinguished by color, texture, size, and even smell indicated through text indicators.
Positioning and action sequence: Teams learn where to park their technical vehicle based on the situation, ensuring it is at a safe distance from the scene while remaining accessible. This also includes determining appropriate equipment and selecting the necessary tools for the task at hand.
Responders are tasked with piecing together the clues present in the environment to effectively address the situation at hand. Through this immersive and interactive training experience, rapid response rescuers develop critical thinking skills and learn to act responsibly and decisively in high-pressure situations.
