About the Project
For this project, N-iX first developed a prototype that featured one environment and core functionalities. After receiving positive feedback, we proceeded to expand the training program. Key features include:
Variety of Fire Extinguishers: Practitioners have access to five variations of fire extinguishers: CO2, dry and wet chemical extinguishers, foam, and water extinguishers. Most of them also come in 3 sizes: 2, 5, and 10kg.
Custom Controller Integration: To enhance immersion and effectiveness, participants can connect a custom physical controller resembling a fire extinguisher. This controller mirrors real-life usage, providing a more realistic training experience.
Diverse Environments: The training encompasses four environments: warehouse, kitchen, office, and basement. Each setting presents unique challenges, preparing participants for real-world scenarios.
Visual Effects and Physics Simulation: The VR experience features realistic visual effects for extinguishers, including physics-based particle simulation and collision with fire sources. The effectiveness of extinguishing is determined by the angle of aiming, adding an extra layer of realism and challenge. Additionally, smoke behavior varies based on environmental factors such as space size and ventilation presence.
Optimization for VR Headsets: The simulation is optimized for HTC Vive headset, ensuring smooth performance without compromising visuals or physics. Later, the training was also adapted for VIVE Focus 3.
By combining cutting-edge VR technology with detailed simulations and practical training scenarios, this project offers an innovative approach to firefighting education, ultimately improving safety and preparedness in emergency situations.
